Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI)

The Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1997 by James P. Womack, a leading figure in lean management principles and co-author of "The Machine That Changed the World." Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, LEI's mission is to advance lean thinking and practice throughout the world. LEI serves as an educational and research hub, offering workshops, conferences, publications, and online resources to help organizations implement lean principles. These principles focus on maximizing customer value while minimizing waste across all business processes. The institute has developed numerous tools and frameworks that help organizations transition from traditional management approaches to lean methodologies. The organization maintains a comprehensive publishing program, producing books, workbooks, and case studies that document lean transformations and best practices. LEI's Lean Post blog and newsletter regularly share insights from practitioners and thought leaders in the field. Through its Lean Global Network, LEI collaborates with affiliated organizations worldwide to promote lean thinking across different cultures and industries. The institute works with companies of all sizes, from manufacturing to healthcare and services, helping them improve their operational efficiency and organizational culture through lean principles.

Shingo Institute

The Shingo Institute, based at Utah State University, was established to carry forward Dr. Shigeo Shingo's legacy in operational excellence. The institute is known for the prestigious Shingo Prize, often called the "Nobel Prize of Manufacturing." Their model emphasizes the importance of organizational culture and principles that drive sustainable results. The institute offers training, assessments, and conferences focused on cultural transformation and operational excellence. Their certification program is highly regarded in the industry for developing lean leaders.

Catalysis

Catalysis (formerly ThedaCare Center for Healthcare Value) specializes in helping healthcare organizations implement lean principles. Founded by John Toussaint, MD, the organization emerged from ThedaCare's successful lean transformation. Catalysis offers education programs, peer-to-peer learning networks, and consulting services specifically tailored to healthcare providers. They are known for their Healthcare Value Network, which connects healthcare organizations committed to lean transformation.

Toyota Production System Support Center (TSSC)

The Toyota Production System Support Center (TSSC) is Toyota's nonprofit organization that shares the company's production system knowledge with North American organizations. TSSC works directly with selected companies, nonprofits, and government agencies to implement TPS principles. Their hands-on approach involves long-term partnerships where Toyota experts work on-site to develop people and processes. Unlike consulting firms, TSSC focuses on developing internal capabilities rather than providing temporary solutions.

GBMP Consulting Group

GBMP (Greater Boston Manufacturing Partnership) is a nonprofit organization providing lean and Six Sigma training and implementation assistance. They serve primarily manufacturing companies in the northeastern United States but work across various industries. GBMP is known for their practical approach to lean implementation and their extensive library of training materials and videos. They offer certification programs and host an annual Northeast Lean Conference.

Central Coast Lean

Central Coast Lean is a regional learning and networking organization serving California's central coast region. They focus on connecting lean practitioners and organizations through conferences, workshops, and networking events. The organization works closely with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and local businesses to promote lean thinking. Their annual summit brings together practitioners to share experiences and best practices in lean implementation.

The Ohio State University's Center for Operational Excellence

The Ohio State University's Center for Operational Excellence (COE) is a premier research and education center focused on operational excellence and lean principles. The center connects member companies with faculty expertise and student talent. They offer professional development programs, host regular events and seminars, and conduct research on leading operational practices. The COE is particularly known for its work in linking academic research with practical business applications, and its strong network of member organizations represents various industries.
